How do I know if I need therapy?

Consider therapy if you’re experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress that interfere with your daily life. Other signs include difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite, relationship problems, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges. Therapy can also be beneficial for personal growth, even if you’re not experiencing a mental health crisis.

Your first session typically involves getting to know your therapist and discussing what brought you to therapy. We’ll review your history, current concerns, and goals for treatment. This is also a time for you to ask questions about the therapeutic process and ensure you feel comfortable with your therapist.
The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (6-12 sessions) for specific issues, while others engage in longer-term therapy for more complex concerns. We’ll regularly check in about your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

Psychologists typically hold a doctoral degree and provide therapy, counseling, and psychological testing. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication in addition to providing therapy. At Mind Balance, we have both psychologists and psychiatrists to provide comprehensive care.

We are currently out-of-network with insurance providers. However, we’re happy to provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement

Yes, therapy sessions are confidential with very few exceptions. We may be required to break confidentiality if there’s an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected child or elder abuse, or if ordered by a court. We’ll discuss these limits during your first session.

What is the difference between psychology and psychiatry services?

Psychology services focus on psychotherapy and behavioral interventions, while psychiatry services include medical evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management. While we don’t offer psychology services or have psychologists on staff, we incorporate concepts of psychology and consult with outside psychologists.

How long are typical therapy sessions?

Standard therapy sessions are typically 45-50 minutes for individual psychotherapy, while psychiatric evaluations may take 60-90 minutes for the initial assessment.

Do I need a referral to start treatment?

No referral is required. You can contact us directly to schedule your initial consultation. We accept most major insurance plans and offer self-pay options.

How often will I need to attend sessions?

Session frequency varies based on your individual needs and treatment plan. Typically, we start with weekly sessions and adjust as you progress in your treatment.
